Green Bay Blizzard News Release
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) â The Quad City Steamwheelers scored four straight touchdowns from the end of the first half through the second half to take command of the game at 49-38 in their 62-53 victory over the Green Bay Blizzard.
While Quad City's offense was connecting on many short passes in the second half, the Steamwheeler defense kept the Blizzard offense to only two touchdowns and a missed field goal attempt.
Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the Game Ronnie Gordon (quarterback, Quad City) had two key targets in Tim Dodge and Jeff Hewitt. Hewitt hauled in nine catches for 141 yards and five touchdowns. Dodge had 10 catches for 143 yards and one touchdown, which helped earn him the U.S. Army Ironman Award.
The Blizzard lost its momentum as they failed to score after getting the ball on the Steamwheelers' 2-yard line at the end of the first half and then they failed to convert on a fourth down on the Quad City 10-yard line early in the second half. Green Bay struggled to kick-start its offense after that.
"It seems like we're cursed in the second half," Blizzard Offensive Coordinator Rod Miller said.
With 4:43 remaining in the first quarter, Green Bay quarterback Chris Greisen connected with Robert Garth on his second of six touchdown passes to take a 21-point lead and set the franchise single-season record in scoring at 553, and the Blizzard stand at 585 points. The old record was at 547.
