New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
MANCHESTER, N.H. - This evening at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium, QiQi Chen, a junior from Manchester High School West, drove away with a brand new 2012 Honda Civic as the grand prize winner of AutoFair's 'Make the Grade' program. Chen was recognized with 11 other Manchester public high school students in a pre-game ceremony before the Fisher Cats game tonight.
Manchester Mayor Ted Gatsas, AutoFair New Hampshire President Andy Crews, Manchester Schools Superintendent Thomas Brennan, and New Hampshire Fisher Cats President Rick Brenner stood by while each student selected a key that would potentially start the new car. Chen picked the winning key, turning the engine as the ninth student in the progression.
"I was so nervous before I got into the car," said Chen. "I never thought I was going to win it, and I'm still really nervous, but really excited."
Andy Crews commented, "Autofair is proud to award this vehicle to QiQi as she has demonstrated academic excellence, which is what this program is all about. We look forward to continuing this partnership with the City of Manchester and the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. We will be unveiling next year's vehicle in the fall and hope to see an even larger turn out than this year."
'Make The Grade' is a public-private partnership between the City of Manchester, AutoFair, and the Fisher Cats, formed to recognize academic achievements and enhance community commitment from corporate partners.
The 12 students were selected on Thursday, May 23, based upon their academic achievement during the school year. Four students from each Manchester public high school were selected after making the Honor Roll, High Honors, or Principal's List during one of the first three quarters the 2012/2013 academic year. The twelve students recognized before the game were:
Manchester High School Central: Jesse Roberts
Shanice Drysdale
Kaitlyn Landry
Emily Duchesne
Manchester Memorial High School: Malibu Sprague
Kerri Cobb
