Arizona Rattlers News Release
Phoenix, Ariz. - The Indoor Football League (IFL) has just announced that Arizona Rattlers Quarterback, Jeff Ziemba, has been named the IFL Rookie of the Year.
"Jeff was signed late in training camp only one week before the season opener," said General Manager and Head Coach Kevin 'Guy. "He got thrown into the fire early when Verlon Reed got injured in the first series of the first game."
Ziemba joined the team with only a week left in training camp, but was forced into action early due to an injury to then starting quarterback Verlon Reed which occurred in the first half of the first game of the season. Despite a slow start and a steep learning curve, Ziemba would eventually finish second in the league in passing touchdowns (39) and third in passing yards (1,745) and completions (166).
"He did a nice job transitioning to the indoor game and buying into the Rattlers system," Guy continued. "Jeff worked hard and continued to improve on his mechanics and knowledge of the game throughout the season. I'm excited to see how he continues to develop as a professional."
The Newark, Delaware native played college football at Shepherd University in West Virginia. In his senior season in 2016, Ziemba was named First-Team All-MEC with 3,627 passing yards and 32 touchdowns, and five rushing touchdowns. He was also named to the D2CCA All-Super Region 1 first team and a Harlon Hill Trophy finalist. Ziemba holds the Shepherd University record for most career TD passes with 87.
