QB Colston, Ex- Notre Dame DB and Wyoming standout among Vipers' latest additions

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Ex-Tennessee Valley Vipers and Alabama A&M standout Torrey Day is moving on to the Arena Football League while his former team has been assigned three more players by arenafootball2.

Former Notre Dame defensive back Carlos Campbell, Wyoming defensive end Anthony Jones and Tony Colston, a quarterback out of Tusculum who played in a pair of early games for Tennessee Valley last season, will join the Vipers for training camp in mid-March.

"Tony is a great outdoor quarterback who has learned the indoor game and was outstanding last year in the (Intense Football League),'' Vipers coach Milt Theodosatos said. "I'm looking forward to Jones - he's a big man at 6-foot-6 - being a defensive force, and Campbell comes to us from the Fighting Irish with great credentials. We expect him to compete for a starting position."

Campbell (5-11, 196 pounds) had 40 tackles in 40 games at Notre Dame from 2001-04, while Jones completed his career at Wyoming in '04 with 27 tackles in 30 games.

Colston (6-4, 195) thrived the second-half of the 2006 IFL season after joining the CenTex Barracudas, completing 88 of 170 passes for 1,133 yards with 29 touchdowns and nine interceptions. At Tusculum from '02-'04, he threw for a school-record 6,307 yards and 37 touchdowns.

Day heads to Orlando after leading the Vipers with 98 receptions for 1,313 yards and 21 touchdowns in 13 games last season. He also played defensive back, recording 21.5 tackles with an interception and three pass breakups. From 2003-05, Day played 32 games for the Louisville Fire, Green Bay Blizzard and South Georgia Wildcats, catching 126 passes for 1,613 yards and 27 touchdowns.

Vipers tryout set for Feb. 4: Tennessee Valley will hold an open tryout Feb. 4 in the Von Braun Center's South Hall. There will be a 1 p.m. registration and a 2 p.m. start.
