Alabama Steeldogs News Release
Birmingham, Ala. - Alabama Steeldogs defensive specialist Erick Harris has signed a contract with the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles to be part of the team's playoff practice squad.
"I'm excited about getting this chance," Harris said from Philadelphia on Friday. "This is a great organization and I'm grateful for the opportunity to contribute."
Harris, a standout player at Liberty University, played 14 games for the Steeldogs in 2006 and finished third on the team with 41 total tackles while averaging 16.4 yards on 26 kick-off returns. Harris totaled 25 catches for 281 yards and six touchdowns on offense for the Steeldogs.
"This is a great opportunity for Erick," said Alabama Steeldogs Head Coach Ron Selesky. "This is also a great example of the type of players we want to compete for the Alabama Steeldogs."
Harris joins the Eagles' squad as they prepare to face the New York Giants this Sunday in an NFC Wild Card playoff game.
"Everyone is really focused right now," Harris said. "I'm trying to come in here and do what I can to help the Eagles win."
This is the seventh player under Coach Selesky to make the jump from Arena Football to an NFL squad, including kicker Rob Bironas, who started for the Tennessee Titans this season.
