Edmonton, AB - Edmonton Oil Kings most valuable player and 2010 NHL first-round draft pick Mark Pysyk will look to rock on The Rock this week as he heads to Newfoundland for Hockey Canada's World Junior development damp.

The camp begins on Wednesday, Aug. 4, and runs through Saturday, Aug. 7, at Mile One Centre in St. John's, N.L. It includes on-ice sessions, two Red-White intrasquad games and off-ice activities that will help Hockey Canada and the coaching staff assemble Canada's roster for the upcoming 2011 IIHF World Junior Championship in Buffalo and Niagara, N.Y.

Pysyk is one of 16 defencemen attending the development camp. The 6-foot-1, 182-pound blue-liner is also one of 18 NHL first-round draft picks headed to Newfoundland - he was picked 23rd overall by the Buffalo Sabres this past June.

The 18-year-old has played two full seasons in the Western Hockey League with the Oil Kings, scoring seven goals and 17 assists during the 2009-2010 campaign that saw him awarded as the team's MVP, top defenceman and top academic performer.

Pysyk already has an impressive background with Team Canada, as he competed for Team Pacific at the 2009 World Under-17 Challenge and helped the national under-18 team capture gold at the Memorial of Ivan Hlinka tournament in Slovakia and the Czech Republic last August. He also played for Team WHL at the SUBWAY Super Series against the Russians last November.
