Pyatt Hat-Trick leads Spirit to 9-0 Shutout Win over Otters

(Saginaw, MI) The Saginaw Spirit defeated the Erie Otters 9-0 Saturday night at home making it the Spirit's highest scoring margin this season. Saginaw's Tom Pyatt had a 5 point night with a hat trick and 2 assists, Ryan McDonough had a 4 point night with 4 assists and Ryan Daniels notched his first career shut out. Saginaw's record moves to 30-19-0-2 with 62 points. The Spirit hold down second place in the OHL West Division, behind the 73 point first place Plymouth Whalers.

"It was a total team effort" stated Spirit General Manager and Head Coach Bob Mancini.

The Spirit started their scoring tear in the first period. A goal from center Ryan O'Marra (NYI 05) at the 4:39 mark made it 1-0 Saginaw. Centers Ryan McDonough and Tom Pyatt (NYR 05) assisted.

Saginaw's Pyatt scored three consecutive goals in the first half of the second for a natural hat trick. The first goal was notched at the 2:36 mark in the period following an assist from McDonough. The second Pyatt goal came at 5:34 in the second period, assisted by McDonough and d-man Nigel Williams (COL 06). Pyatt's third goal, at 9:55 in the second, advanced the Spirit lead to 4-0. McDonough and O'Marra assisted. Spirit winger Ryan Berard capped off scoring in the second period with a power play goal at 18:40 in the second period, advancing Saginaw's lead to 5-0.

The Spirit offensive production continued into the third period. Winger Tomas Zaborsky tallied a goal at the 3:22 mark in the third, assisted by winger Jan Mursak (DET 06) and center Tyler Haskins. Winger Chris Chappell advanced the Spirit lead to 7-0 with a goal :14 seconds later following assists from centers Andrew Clouthier and Tom Craig. Craig notched a power play goal at the 6:38 mark in the third, advancing the Spirit lead to 8-0. Chappell and Williams assisted. Mursak finished out the scoring with an unassisted goal at 19:03 in the third.
