Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release

Ottawa, Ont. - The St. Michael's Majors hit Ottawa's Scotiabank Place ice this afternoon for the second time this season. They were attempting to avenge a 4-1 loss to the 67's in the same venue earlier in the season. It was mission accomplished as the Majors put together a big 8-4 victory.

All signs pointed to a high-scoring affair right from the get-go. Micheal Haley put the Majors up 1-0 3:54 into the game, off of Matt Caria and Jesse Messier feeds. Derek Joslin responded for the 67's less than a minute later after receiving a Thomas Kiriakou pass. Then, Ottawa jumped in front off of a Jamie McGinn power-play goal at 9:13, with the support coming from Arron Alphonso and Jakub Vojta. However, the Majors regained the lead before the intermission courtesy of Haley and Jason Cassidy power-play goals at 13:57 and 16:08. The helpers on these markers were grabbed by Messier, Caria, Mike Pelech and Kaspars Daugavins.

The teams traded goals again in the middle frame. McGinn tied up the affair at 8:15, with Couture nabbing the assist. And, Matt McCready's man-advantage tally at 11:33, off of a Caria pass, gave the Majors the 4-3 lead.

The Majors effectively put the game out of reach with Cassidy and Messier goals at 9:25 and 15:55 (power-play) of the 3rd period. The 67's got to within a pair of goals when Kiriakou found the back of the net with just under two minutes to play. However, Daugavins added an empty-net goal and Cassidy provided even more insurance to finish off the scoring. The Majors 3rd period assists were credited to Daugavins (2), Pelech (2), Caria, McCready, Rob Kwiet and Tim Billingsley.

Chris Carrozzi turned aside 40 shots for the Majors to get the win in front of his hometown fans. Brady Morrison responded with 25 stops for the 67's. The Majors were 4 for 5 on the power-play while the 67's were 1 for 11. The game's three stars were Daugavins (1st), Cassidy (2nd) and Carrozzi (3rd).

The Majors finish off the weekend by visiting the Brampton Battalion tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. They return home to host the Soo Greyhounds on Thursday evening (February 8) at 7:30 p.m.

Majors tickets are available by contacting the club at 416-651-8228, by calling Ticketmaster at 416-872-5000, online at www.ticketmaster.ca or by stopping by the St. Michael's College School Arena box office within two hours of the puck drop.
