
Puppets Break out the Brooms against Princeton

BURLINGTON, N.C. - The Burlington Sock Puppets swept the two game series with the Princeton Whistlepigs, winning game two by a score of 14-5. The Sock Puppets got the scoring going in the bottom of the first when Isaiah Adams drew a bases-loaded walk, scoring a run. Nick Winkelmeyer added the second tally of the opening frame, scoring Benji Gilbert on an RBI ground-out.
Cole Reynolds brought the fireworks on firework Friday with an opposite field solo home run over the left field fence in the third inning.
Burlington pulled away for good with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning after Princeton scored three in the top half to tie the game. Brenden Bell was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Cole Reynolds doubled on a 2-0 count, scoring three runs.
The Sock Puppets also notched five runs in the eighth inning. The offensive onslaught was led by Nick Winkelmeyer and Brayden Merrick, who each had RBIs in the inning.
Jacob Speaker earned the win for Burlington. He allowed five hits and three runs over six innings, striking out five and walking one. Luke Folsom, Camden Fuquay, and AJ Ortiz all put in work in relief out of the bullpen, helping the Sock Puppets lock down the win.
Teddy Brennan started the game for the WhistlePigs. The lefty surrendered two runs on one hit over one inning, striking out one in the process. Brian Beers took the loss for Princeton, allowing two hits and five runs over one inning of work.
The Sock Puppets will travel to Danville on Saturday to begin a two game series.
