BURLINGTON, N.C. - The Sock Puppet bats powered the way to an emphatic win on Thursday night. The Puppets turned in their most complete game of the season, churning out 17 runs on 13 hits, and striking out 11, while only allowing 4 earned runs.
Brenden Bell was clutch at the plate with ducks on the pond, driving in four on two hits to lead the Sock Puppets past the Princeton WhistlePigs 17-6. Brenden Bell drove in four runs on a double in the second and a walk in the eighth.
Both offenses were strong at the plate as the Sock Puppets collected 13 hits and WhistlePigs netted six in the high-scoring affair.
The Sock Puppets got things moving in the second inning. Bell drove in three when he doubled.
Burlington tallied seven runs in the eighth inning. Marshall Raper, Luke Folsom, Mason Speaker, Benji Gilbert, Ryan Picollo, and Bell powered the big inning with RBIs.
The WhistlePigs scored three runs in the fifth inning. The big inning for Princeton came thanks to a walk by Nathan Holt and a double by Tre Morris.
Jack McRae got the win for the Burlington Sock Puppets. The righty allowed no hits and no runs over one and one-third innings, walking one. Trevor Nanney, Connor Butler, and Peter Gallo all put in work in relief out of the bullpen, steering their team towards the victory.
Joe Burch took the loss for the Princeton WhistlePigs. Burch surrendered five runs on five hits over one inning, striking out one and walking one.
Kannon Handy started the game for the Burlington Sock Puppets. The southpaw lasted four and two-thirds innings, allowing two hits and three runs while striking out seven.
The Puppets had one home run on the day. Designated hitter Luke Folsom launched a ball beyond the left field fence.
The Sock Puppets racked up 13 hits on the day. Nicholas Winkelmeyer, Bell, Raper, Picollo, and Folsom all managed multiple hits for Burlington. Folsom, Picollo, Raper, Bell, and Winkelmeyer each collected two hits to lead Burlington.
The Sock Puppets' next game will be Friday at 7PM from Burlington Athletic Stadium.
