Danville Otterbots News Release
DANVILLE, VA - Danville's road struggles surfaced again Thursday night in Pulaski. The D-Braves had opportunities to secure their 13th win of the season; however the Mariners seemed to find the answers when they need them most.
Danville and Pulaski combined for six errors on the night; however it was Danville that felt the biggest sting of the mistakes. The first runs of the game came in the first frame of the evening, when a throwing error by Pulaski's third baseman Jay Baum allowed Codey McElroy and Omar Obregon to reach home. Obregon would also drive in Justin Black on a single to right in the top of the second. Obregon went 3-5 with a triple and two RBI from the leadoff spot, replacing the usual leadoff man Sean Godfrey in the lineup for the night.
Tanner Murphy was the cause of the other earned runs for Pulaski's pitching staff with two RBI on the night. Murphy crushed a homer to right center in the top of the third with Jordan Edgerton on base, his second home run of the season. Edgerton (3) and Murphy are the only D-Braves with multiple home runs on the season for Danville.
D-Braves pitching walked a total of eight Mariners, and two runs were scored directly off of wild pitches by Alec Grosser and Carlos Salazar. Couple that with the team's three errors, and it was a recipe for disaster for the D-Braves.
The final run of the game was scored in the fifth inning, when Salazar threw a wild pitch with Gianfranco Wawoe at the plate, which allowed Georvic Perez to score extending Pulaski's lead to 7-6. In the top of the ninth, Danville had an opportunity to tie the game with Bryan De La Rosa on third, and Obregon at bat. Obregon left in the middle of the at bat after fouling a ball off his foot prompting De La Rosa to attempt to score; he would be sent back to third. Obregon would leave the game with a foot injury, and Yeudi Grullon pinch hit for the injured second baseman. Grullon would strike out to end the game.
The Danville Braves (12-8) and Pulaski Mariners (11-10) will finish out an even series through two with a third game in Pulaski tomorrow night. Danville will send out Andrew Waszak (1-1, 4.66 ERA) to face off against Pulaski's Zack Littell (2-2, 5.24 ERA) in the rubber match of the series. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Calfee Park.
