Providence Bruins News Release
Providence, RI - The P-Bruins looked solid in their first road game of the season but did not come away with much to show for it, falling to the Sound Tigers 2-1.
Malcolm Subban had a much stronger start after being pulled partway through the first period of last night's 3-1 loss. In the first frame, Subban turned away 14 shots including some impressive glove work and acrobatic saves during a penalty kill. Sean Kuraly was knocking on the doorstep in the final seconds of the period, but the game remained scoreless headed into the second.
Providence came out firing in the second, rifling off 9 shots before Bridgeport managed to make one. Kuraly dropped the gloves with the Sound Tiger's Burrough's 3 minutes into the middle frame his first professional fight. The P-Bruins only power play of the period was cut short when Colby Cave was called for boarding, turning it into 4v4 play. Bridgeport cut the stalemate with 3 minutes to play in the period when Johnston's writer beat Subban high glove side.
Kearns doubled the lead halfway through the third period with a shot that found the upper left corner.
Matt Bartkowski cut the lead to 2-1 when he notched his first goal of the season with 1:12 to play in the game. Bartkowski managed find the puck in a scrum in front of the net and roofed it past a sprawling Gibson. Providence pulled the goalie with a minute to play for an extra skater, but when the horn sounded the Sound Tigers still held the 2-1 lead.
It was not a productive day for either sides special teams, with Bridgeport and Providence both going 0 for 4 on power play opportunities.
The P-Bruins are back home tomorrow Sunday, October 16th against the St. John's Ice Caps.
