
Privett Pitches 'Hammers Past RedHawks 8-4

FARGO, ND - Todd Privett surrendered one earned run over seven frames and the Joliet JackHammers (30-26) pounded out eight runs and 14 hits in an 8-4 victory Friday night over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (34-20) at Newman Outdoor Field. The game featured an hour and 22 minute rain delay to start the game and finished just minutes before midnight.
The JackHammers scored in six of the nine innings, putting the game out of reach with three in the eighth. The inning started with two quick outs by Alex Kent before Kevin Rios reached on a fielding error by Zach Penprase. Brad Correll followed with a single and Jon Nelson doubled home both runners for a 7-4 lead. Adam Tollefson entered and Freddie Thon promptly plugged the gap with a double for the 8-4 final.
Privett (5-4) went the first seven, allowing four runs (one earned) on six hits with six strikeouts. The southpaw surrendered three unearned runs in the third and his lone earned tally in the first.
Fargo-Moorhead took a 4-2 lead in the third with the three runs, their largest cushion in the game. Kole Zimmerman singled and Alan Rick hit a bouncing ball to short that Kevin Rios flipped past Roberto Mena at second. After Mike Coles walked, Penprase delivered a single to tie the game at two. Eric Campbell singled home two more later in the inning for the two run lead.
Josh Flores gave Joliet the lead for good in the fifth with his second RBI single. Ryan Wehrle walked and was sacrificed to second by Mena. After Joe Billick walked, Flores singled off Casey Hoorelbeke (7-3) to put the JackHammers up 5-4.
Hoorelbeke picked up the loss out of the bullpen, allowing the one run on four hits in 2.1 innings. The All-Star walked two and struck out two in the outing.
Flores was aboard five times, collecting two hits, two runs batted, two runs scored, two walks and three stolen bases. Thon knocked in a run and picked up a game high four hits.
The JackHammers improved to 3-4 this season against the RedHawks with five games remaining. Rory Shortell (1-4) and Matt Mossey (3-2) is the starting pitching matchup tomorrow night. First pitch is slated for 6:00 p.m. with a 5:50 p.m. pre-game show on 1340 WJOL.
