Goldeyes pummel the Flyers in series opener

Schaumburg Flyers News Release
WINNIPEG, MB - The Flyers (21-36) were no match for the Winnipeg Goldeyes (28-30) at Canwest Park Friday night as they fell 11-3.
The Goldeyes pounded out a season high 21 hits against Schaumburg pitching and launched two home runs in the win.
The scoring started off of Flyers starter Ryan Gehring (3-5) in the top of the first inning. Juan Diaz pounded a base hit with one out to drive in Price Kendall. That was a sign of things to come, as Winnipeg plated two more in the second and one in the third.
Then Josh Burrus breathed some life into the Flyers, crushing the Chris Salamida offering over the left center field fence for his first round tripper of the season, cutting the deficit to 4-1.
But the momentum switched for good in the bottom of the sixth with Long off of second with two outs and Brian McCullough on the bump. Diaz sent a grounder to first that went in-between Joe Nowicki's legs to plate Long and led to one more run coming across.
Burrus smashed his second home run in as many at bats in the seventh and Ron Borquin brought Travis Brown in with a double in the eighth, but that was the extent of the Flyers scoring.
Winnipeg added five runs in the seventh and eighth innings, including Dee Brown and Diaz homers to push the final advantage to 11-3.
Gehring struggled against the Goldeyes, giving up four runs on eleven hits. Goldeyes starter Chris Salamida (7-4) impressed, taking a no-hitter into the fifth inning. The lefty tossed 6.2 strong frames, allowing just two runs, both Burrus homers. Salamida struck out five and did not walk a Schaumburg hitter.
The Flyers continue their weekend series with the Goldeyes at Canwest Park on Saturday night. Dustin Glant will take the hill for Schaumburg opposite Winnipeg's Steven Flake.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 PM. Join Alex Perlman on 1410 WRMN and flyersbaseball.com for all the action as the Flyers take on the Goldeyes. The Schaumburg Flyers Pregame Show gets rolling at 5:50 PM with the game to follow.
