July 13, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Myrtle Beach Thunderboltz News Release
FLORENCE, SC â The Pee Dee Pride announced today that the team has signed forward Brian Collins to a contract for the 2004-2005 season.
The 23-year-old Collins enters his second professional season after spending last season with the ECHL's Pensacola Ice Pilots. Collins was one of just three Ice Pilots to appear in all 72 games, scoring 18 goals and adding 24 assists (42 points) to go along with a +4 rating. The Pride acquired Collins' rights at the end of last season as the player-to-be-named later in the trade that sent Eric Naud to Pensacola on March 16.
Collins was selected in the third round, 87th overall, by the New York Islanders in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. Prior to turning pro, he played four seasons at Boston University, tallying 99 points in 159 games.
"I have gotten to know Coach Florio a lot over the last several weeks," Collins said. "We should have a good team here this season, with some new, young faces, and I am very excited to be part of it."
"Brian is an excellent young player who had an outstanding rookie campaign in Pensacola," Pride Head Coach Perry Florio said. "He can skate, he can score, and his upbeat attitude is what I was looking for. He will bring skill to the ice and charisma to the locker room."
The Pride open the 2004-2005 regular season on Friday, October 22, hosting the Roanoke Express at 7:30 p.m. The Pride continue their season-opening three-game home stand on Saturday, October 23 taking on the Greensboro Generals at 7:30 p.m., and on Tuesday, October 26 with a 7:00 p.m. match-up with the Gwinnett Gladiators.
