San Diego Gulls News Release
SAN DIEGO â The San Diego Gulls have signed forward Darren Partch and rookie defenseman Sean Murphy to one-year deals, head coach Martin St. Amour announced on Tuesday. Per club policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.
Partch, who will turn 24 in September, re-joins the Gulls for his first full season. He signed with the Gulls late last season, posting two points (2g, 0a) and five penalty minutes in seven games. Partch began his rookie campaign in 2003-04 with the Long Beach Ice Dogs before moving to the Las Vegas Wranglers. With all three teams he notched 25 points (16g, 9a) and 21 penalty minutes in 56 total games. Before turning pro the 6-foot-1-inch, 175-pound native of Agoura Hills, Calif. played two years at Plattsburgh State University (New York).
Murphy, 26, comes to San Diego for his first professional season after spending the last four years playing college hockey at York University. During his tenure there, the 6-foot, 192-pound native of Aurora, Ontario recorded 91 points (24g, 67a) and 166 penalty minutes in 105 games. Murphy was named as a first-team All-Star in 2003-04 and 2001-02, while being selected as a second-team All-Star in 2002-03. Last season he was York University's team captain and led his club with a plus/minus rating of +27. Murphy is the son of Mike Murphy, who is a former head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Los Angeles Kings. Mike Murphy also played in the NHL for the St. Louis Blues, New York Rangers and Kings.
With Partch and Murphy signed, the Gulls' roster now officially has eight players. Trevor Koenig, David Neale, Sylvain Deschatelets, Chris Gobert, Samy Nasreddine and Mike Garrow were all previous announced as having re-signed.
