Aces re-sign Talbot
July 13, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Alaska Aces News Release
ANCHORAGE, Alaska â The Alaska Aces have agreed to terms with ECHL all-star forward Joe Talbot on a one-year agreement for the 2004-05 season, which will be his second in Anchorage.
Despite being hampered by a nagging groin pull for the entire second half of the season, Talbot earned a bid to the 2004 ECHL All-Star Game by leading all rookies with 42 points (18g-24a) at the break. He scored a goal and an assist in the West's 7-6 loss despite the injury, then played just 20 more games the rest of the season. The 24-year-old Talbot still finished second on the Aces and tied for seventh among ECHL rookies with 56 points on 24 goals and 31 assists in only 59 games.
Still not fully recovered, he dominated San Diego in the first round of the 2004 Kelly Cup playoffs, scoring twice in a 4-2 victory in Game One, and twice more, including the game-winner, in a 5-1 decision that clinched the series in Game Three. Postseason success was nothing new for Talbot, who already has been part of a Kelly Cup winner in Atlantic City (2003), a University Cup at Western Ontario (2002), and a Memorial Cup with Ottawa (2000).
"In many ways, even though he's a young guy, Joe embodies what you'd like to see in all players, rookies and veterans alike," said Alaska head coach Davis Payne. "He plays hurt, he has tremendous heart, and there's not a more popular guy in our locker roomâand that's not even mentioning how talented a player he is."
Alaska begins its regular season October 22-23 in Idaho against the defending ECHL champions, after which the Aces will return home for a three-game set with San Diego October 29-31. Season tickets are on sale now. KFQD 750 AM will broadcast all Alaska Aces games, with the live feed also available at www.alaskaaces.com. For season ticket information, please call 258-ACES.
