Preview: Toughest Test Yet
February 27, 2016 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Phoenix Rising FC News Release
The skinny: Arizona United SC closes out the first stage of its preseason with one final match in the FC Tucson Desert Diamond Cup. After two weeks training in isolation in Casa Grande, the club will return to the Valley and begin training closer to home for the rest of preseason.
That final match will be against MLS side Colorado Rapids, the highest level of competition United has faced in its short preseason.
"We'll be tested defensively," said Arizona United head coach Frank Yallop. "My big thing is, can we handle it team wise and individually. They're going to be sharper and quicker than the two teams we've played so far. ... So, yeah, it's a good test. I'm excited to see how guys go against some real quality competition in Colorado."
So far, Arizona has played well in preseason. They created plenty of scoring changes in a 0-0 draw against Swope Park Rangers last Saturday and they netted three goals in a 3-1 win over FC Tucson on Wednesday.
"I've been very pleased with the standard of play from the players," Yallop said. "The effort and the commitment from everybody - from the staff at Arizona and the players we brought into camp - I've been very pleased and happy with where we're at right now."
Previous meeting: This will be the first time the two clubs meet.
