Arizona United SC closed out its appearance in the Desert Diamond Cup, and the first stage of preseason, with a 3-0 loss to MLS side Colorado Rapids.

United finished 1-1-1 in the tournament, good for four points in three matches.

"I don't think the score reflected the performance," said Arizona United head coach Frank Yallop. "I was happy with a lot of aspects of the game. .. All in all, I thought our ball movement was good. We created some good chances and I think we were very unlucky not to score one or two goals tonight."

Added midfielder Blair Gavin: "It's always nice seeing that we do have attacking moments and we do create a lot of opportunities. Now it's about keeping the ball out of our net and finishing those chances when they come."

The Rapids went up 1-0 in the 17th minute after Arizona defender Julian Ringoff accidentally headed a corner into the net.

Colorado added a second goal in the 31st minute. Forward Shkelzen Gashi found teammate Kevin Doyle, who tucked his shot inside the right post. Gashi then scored a goal of his own in the 63rd minute to close out the scoring.

The match ends the first stage of United's preseason. The team will now head back to the Valley to train and participate in three more friendlies.

The club will begin the 2016 season on March 26, against Los Angeles Galaxy II. The home opener will be on April 30, against Portland Timbers 2.
