Preview: Swope Park Rangers Face Rio Grande Valley FC
May 20, 2016 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Sporting Kansas City II News Release
The Swope Park Rangers are back in action this weekend and looking build upon last Saturday's victory when they take on Rio Grande Valley FC at the UTRGV Soccer and Track Complex in Edinburg, Texas on Saturday night. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. CT and the game will be available via live stream on SportingKC.com.
The Rangers snapped a four-game winless streak last weekend, topping Tulsa Roughnecks FC 2-1 behind two goals from winger Tyler Pasher. SPR opened the scoring through Pasher just after halftime, but Tulsa found their way back into the game and equalized through Sammy Ochoa in the 79th minute. The Rangers hit right back and Pasher notched his second of the game two minutes later to ensure SPR took all three points.
Rio Grande Valley FC, the Houston Dynamo's USL affiliate, enter the weekend with a 3-2-2 record following last weekend's 1-1 home draw with Real Monarchs SLC. RGV fell behind in the first half after Ricardo Velazco put the Monarchs ahead, but the Toros responded through Mauro Manotas in the second period to take a point from the contest.
RGV are 0-1-1 at home so far this season, with the Rangers going 1-2-1 on the road. Saturday's game opens up a three-game road swing for SPR, with the club's next home game coming against Rio Grande Valley FC on June 8. The two sides will conclude their season series at Swope Soccer Village on Sept. 3.
