Preview: Storm Seek Weekend Sweep over Capitols

Middleton, WI. - The Tri-City Storm seek a weekend sweep over the Madison Capitols this afternoon at Bob Suter's Capitol Ice Arena following a 5-2 road victory last night. In last night's win, Adam Klapka scored twice, Colby Ambrosio scored twice, and Mike Koster netted his third goal of the season. Ryan Ouellette recorded his first career USHL win in net. Tri-City returns home next weekend in back to back games against the Omaha Lancers. Puck drop for today's road game against the Madison Capitols is scheduled for 3:05pm.

Tri-City (21-15-3-2) won its fifth consecutive game against the Madison Capitols in last night's 5-2 victory. Adam Klapka netted two goals in his USHL debut with the Storm, and Colby Ambrosio also scored his team-leading 23rd and 24th goals. Mike Koster's 2nd period goal was his first goal since he scored in Tri-City's 5-3 win over the Des Moines Buccaneers on January 4th. Ryan Ouellette turned away 16 of Madison's 18 shots to record his first career USHL win in net. Ouellette improved his personal record to 1-1-1-0 and now has a Goals Against Average (GAA) of 3.56. The Storm improved to 16-2-1-0 this season when leading after the 2nd period. Tri-City is 6-3-1-0 in its past ten games and climbed to 5th place in the USHL league standings after last night's road win over Madison. The Storm has won four of its last five games and will return home to the Viaero Center next weekend to host the Omaha Lancers. Next weekend's home games are Tri-City's only home games in the month of February. Friday's game is a $5 Kids Friday and the team's annual "Taste of Nebraska" promotion. Saturday's game celebrates the 40th Anniversary of the "Miracle on Ice". "Miracle on Ice Night" will feature specialty sweaters that will be auctioned off following the game, and a post-game skate with the Storm. Madison (8-29-3-1) looks to bounce back this afternoon after last night's home loss to Tri-City. Hunter Weiss and Ryan Kirwan each scored goals in the game. Christian Stoever fell to 8-14-2-3 after stopping 40 of the Storm's 45 shots on net. The Capitols are now 0-10-1-0 this season against Western Conference competition. Madison dropped to 2-21-0-0 when trailing after the 2nd period this season after allowing three unanswered goals in last night's 2nd period. Ryan Kirwan is among the Top 10 scorers in the USHL this season and is currently tied with Tri-City's Colby Ambrosio for the most power play goals scored in the league this year (12). This afternoon, the Capitols seeks their first win over the Storm since March 11th, 2017. Madison has not defeated Tri-City in regulation time since capturing a 5-4 win on October 31st, 2014. Today's game is the 3rd game of the Capitols current seven game home stand. Next weekend, Madison plays host to the Green Bay Gamblers in back to back home games.
