Tonight...
The rivalry resumes as Saskatoon and Prince Albert kick off the second half of the regular season with a home & home series beginning at SaskTel Centre. This is game #4 of the 8-game season series for the long-time rivals who are also the top 2 teams in the Eastern Conference, and both are riding unbeaten streaks. Saskatoon will look to keep chasing the Raiders and creating distance from Moose Jaw and Brandon while the Raiders will look to continue their dominance without their leading scorer, Brett Leason, and starting goalie, Ian Scott, who are both away with Team Canada at the World Jr. Championship in Vancouver.
Head to Head...
Prince Albert leads the season series 2-1 but the Blades had the last win; a 1-0 shutout victory back on Dec. 9th in Saskatoon. Rookie Tristen Robins leads the Blades with 2 goals vs PA this season, Dawson Davidson (2A) and Eric Florchuk (1G-1A) also have 2 points in the season series. Brett Leason leads the Raiders' offense with 2G-3A, Parker Kelly (2G-2A) and Brayden Pachal (1G-3A) are close behind. Nolan Maier and Ian Scott have started all three games for their teams in the season series... Maier is the only goalie in the WHL to shutout the Raiders this season.
The last game...
Chase Wouters (5), Max Gerlach (18,19), Dawson Davidson (7), and Tristen Robins (6) all scored in a 6-5 overtime loss in Brandon on Dec. 15th. Josh Paterson, Nolan Kneen, and Brandon Schuldhaus all registered 2 assists for the Blades while Nolan Maier made 25 saves in the overtime loss. The Blades outshot the Wheat Kings 40-31. The Raiders wrapped up the first half of the season on the same night with a 7-5 win over Swift Current at home in Prince Albert.
Who's hot......
Josh Paterson has 10 points (3G-7A) in his last 7GP including 2 points in each of his last 3 games. Dawson Davidson has points in his last 3 games and currently sits 2nd among all defensemen in WHL scoring with 34 points. Chase Wouters has 4 points in his last 3 games.
World stage...
Kristian Roykas-Marthinsen (Washington Capitals 2017) returns to the lineup after competing in the World Jr. Div. I tournament in Germany earlier in December with Team Norway. Also returning from the same tournament are both of Prince Albert's import players Aliaksei Protas and Sergei Sapego who suited up for Belarus.
