Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC News Release
PITTSBURGH - Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC (4-0-3) puts its seven-game unbeaten streak on the line, hosting Indy Eleven (4-2-1) at 7 p.m. on Friday at Highmark Stadium. This will be the first-ever meeting between the two sides, and only two points separate the clubs in the Eastern Conference table.
Off to their best start in franchise history, the Hounds' strong play can be attributed to their success at home, as they have won three straight games on the Mon (3-0-1 home record). Indy will present a considerable challenge though, as the USL newcomer has yet to lose a match on the road (2-0-1) and is most recently coming off handing reigning league-champion Louisville City FC its first loss of the season.
Defense should be expected to be the star of the show, as the Hounds (five) and Indy (four) have combined for nine clean sheets so far this year. Pittsburgh currently leads the East in the statistic.
For the Hounds, forward Neco Brett, fresh off another Team of the Week honor, will play a big role in the attack. He currently leads the conference with five goals, including tallies in two straight contests.
Friday's match also will mark the 500th contest in franchise history, including regular season (458), postseason (17) and Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup (25) play. With the Open Cup kicking off next Wednesday, the Hounds could potentially play eight games in the next month depending on how they fare in the single-elimination tournament.
Off the pitch, the Hounds will be celebrating all the super moms out there with Allegheny Health Network. Courtesy of AHN, the first 1,000 fans through the gates will receive a Mother's Day card.
During warmups, Hounds players will wear special #MollieSTRONG bracelets in support of Mollie Nicholas, daughter of Riverhounds SC Development Academy coach Dave Nicholas and his wife, Sara. At less than 1 year old, Mollie was diagnosed with a very rare congenital brain abnormality called Subcortical Band Heterotopia. These wristbands will be available at the stadium for $5 with all proceeds going toward Mollie's recovery. If you would like to learn more or further donate, please visit their GoFundMe page.
Tickets for tomorrow night's tilt are still available and can be found by visiting Riverhounds.com. The club's 2-for-1 ticket special will remain active online until Thursday evening.
