Fresno FC News Release
FRESNO - Fresno Football Club's inaugural run in US Soccer's oldest knockout competition, the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup, will begin Wednesday, May 16, in a second round matchup with NPSL's Orange County Football Club. The Southern California club earned a spot through a 3-0 victory over Santa Ana Winds FC on Wednesday evening.
OCFC is coached by former USMNT player Paul Caliguri, who enjoyed playing spells with SV Meppen, FC St. Pauli, Columbus Crew and LA Galaxy. Caliguri also recently ran for the presidency of the US Soccer Federation. The election was won by Carlos Cordeiro on February 10. Orange County currently sit in 2nd place in the NPSL's Southwest Conference with their only loss in 2018, a 3-2 defeat to LA Galaxy, occurring during the preseason.
"This an exciting opportunity for Fresno FC," said general manager Frank Yallop. "We're eager to be a part of the longest running club competition in this country and hopefully, we can win on Wednesday and go far in the tournament."
Due to scheduling availability at Chukchansi Park, the match will take place at Clovis High School's Lamonica Stadium. All tickets are general admission, cost $10 (plus processing fees online) and are available at tickets.fresnofc.com or prior to the match at Lamonica Stadium. Children 3 and under are free.
