Macon Mayhem News Release

Mayhem Triumph in Lone Trip to Evansville

Last weekend, the Mayhem understood the importance of taking all four points on the road. They were facing the weakest team in the SPHL in the Evansville Thunderbolts, who had only won four games all season. The Bolts have struggled massively in virtually every department, and winning those games was essential for the Mayhem's morale, as well as their positioning in the standings.

With those four points locked down, the Mayhem have secured second place in the league. They are now a point ahead of the Birmingham Bulls, who took just one point of a possible six in their three-game home stand last weekend. Taking advantage of struggling teams is a very positive sign for the Mayhem, as it is equally as important as remaining competitive with red-hot teams. Tonight, one of those teams comes into the Macon Centreplex tonight, and will look to give the Mayhem all they can handle.

The Matchup

A home matchup with the Huntsville Havoc was long overdue. There is a bitter rivalry between the Mayhem and the Havoc that has not been given justice this season, as there has only been a single matchup that took place back on Sunday, November 11th. This game resulted in a 3-2 regulation victory for the Mayhem, who had secured their sixth consecutive win in the process.

Still, feelings of hostility and resentment will be rampant throughout the Centreplex, as fans, players, and coaches alike recall what happened the last time Huntsville visited Macon. Back on Friday, April 20th of 2018, the Havoc eliminated the Mayhem in overtime of a decisive Game 3 in the Semi-Finals. By doing so, they overthrew the Mayhem as President's Cup Champions, and went on to claim the title themselves.

For the first time in Macon, we will see a matchup between the defending champs from two seasons ago facing off against the defending champs from last season. With Huntsville having won its last five games in a row, the Mayhem will undoubtedly have their hands full this evening.

Taulien Catches Fire

Hard-hitting power forward Alexander Taulien was an unstoppable force in Evansville last weekend, netting a total of five goals between Friday and Saturday night. He became the first player on the Mayhem to score a hat trick this season, and earned SPHL Warrior Player of the Week honors. He showed that he offers far more to the table than just hard hits and fights. He is a three-year SPHL veteran with a terrific shot and can be a true difference-maker in tight games. Expectations will be sky-high on Taulien this weekend in the Mayhem's home-and-home series with the red-hot Havoc.

First Three-Game Series

Next weekend will be the Mayhem's first three-game home series of the season. They will play host to the league-leading Peoria Rivermen from Thursday, January 31st through Saturday, February 2nd.

Thursday is College Night presented by Ann Parman Law, where college students can purchase tickets for $8 with the presentation of a college ID at the box office. Friday is Superhero Night presented by Chip'N Away @ Heart Disease, where fans are encouraged to dress as their favorite superheroes. Saturday is Camo Night presented by Tommy's Bakery & Café. On this night, the Mayhem will be wearing camouflage jerseys when they battle the Rivermen to wrap up the series. The jerseys will be sold at a live auction in the Centreplex lobby following the game.
