
Preview: Firebirds Complete Road-Trip Sunday in Oshawa

Oshawa, Ont. - The Firebirds wrap-up three road games in three days Sunday when the club faces off against the Oshawa Generals. Puck drop is set for 6:05 p.m. (ET) at the Tribute Communities Centre (capacity 6,125).
SundayÃÂ marks theÃÂ second of two meetings between the two clubs, and the only game in Oshawa. All-time, the 'Birds hold a record of 2-6-0-0 versus the Gens, and a record of 1-3-0-0 at the Dort Federal Event Center. Last season, Oshawa won both meetings.
Last night, the Firebirds defeated the Hamilton Bulldogs 7ÃÂ - 3. The victory extended Flint's overall franchise-best winning streak toÃÂ nine games, and set a new franchise best road-game winning streak atÃÂ six games. It alsoÃÂ surpassed the club's record for most away-game wins in a single season at 14. The team is nowÃÂ one victory shy of tying the record for most overall wins in a season, which currently sits at 32.
The Firebirds enterÃÂ Sunday's contestÃÂ inÃÂ second place in the West Division with a record of 31-17-1-1. The Generals are currently third in the East Division with an 18-12-2-2 record. On home ice this year, the 'Birds are 12-7-0-0 compared to Oshawa's road record of 11-5-0-1. In their past 10 games, Flint has gone 4-6-0-0 and the Generals are 2-5-2-1.
Of note, sixÃÂ Firebirds have close connections with Oshawa: Ty Dellandrea (Port Perry), Jake Durham (Port Perry), Ethan Keppen (Whitby) and Brennan Othmann (Pickering)ÃÂ hail from theÃÂ Oshawa region. Flint's Vice President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Barclay BranchÃÂ is a native ofÃÂ Oshawa and Flint's Head Coach Eric Wellwood spent two seasons (2014-16) as an assistant coach with the Generals and was a part of the Memorial Cup Championship team in 2015.
OnÃÂ special teamsÃÂ this season, Flint's killing penalties at a rate of 80.3% when short-handed, which is 8th-best in the OHL. Oshawa's penalty-killers are tied for 13thÃÂ at 77.2%. With the man-advantage, the Gens rank sixthÃÂ in the league, converting at a rate of 24.3%, and the Firebirds are 20th, scoring at a 16.3% clip.
