Past meetups - Fighters vs Blizzard
Last year was the first meetup between the Fighters and the Blizzard. The game took place on August 14, 2021, in Frisco, TX, on the backend of the 2021 season. After keeping the Blizzard to no points in both the second and third quarter, the Blizzard tried at a comeback after scoring 13 points in the fourth quarter. The game resulted in a Fighters win with a final score of 38-20.
Coaching
In week four, the entire Fighters coaching staff helped prepare the team to cruise pass the Sugar Skulls - the defense helped keep Tucson out of the endzone the entire first quarter while the offense kept the lead throughout the duration of the game.
The Blizzard's head coach, Corey Roberson, has been with the team since the 2019 IFL season. Prior to his now current role as head coach, Roberson played nine seasons in the league as defensive back.
Players to watch
Similar to week three both Quarterbacks, Blake Sims and TJ Edwards, were key players in the Fighters offensive game against the Sugar Skulls. Sims threw for two touchdowns and tallied 125 yards with 11 attempt passes (10 completion). Edwards rushed for a total of 13 yards resulting in two touchdowns. Both players accumulated 198 total yards from passing for the Fighters, whereas the Sugar Skulls were only able to pass for 140 yards.
Running Back Justin Rankin, rushed for 81 yards which almost doubled the amount the Sugar Skulls collected throughout the game. Rankin ran in three touchdowns and is ranked 3rd for rushing in the IFL thus far this season.
Week four was a significant week for Defensive Backs Britto Tutt and Cedric Poole. Tutt tallied 5 solo tackles while Poole was able to tally 4 solo tackles. So far for the 2022 IFL season, Poole is ranked 5th for interceptions in the league.
After playing on both defense and special teams last week, Defensive Lineman Willie Hibbler was back on defense and totaled 4 solo tackles which resulted in 2 tackles for a loss of 14 yards.
The Frisco Fighters offense is ranked 2nd in the league for scoring at this point in the 2022 IFL season. After taking the lead two minutes into the game with a 6-yard run from Rankin, the Fighters were able to keep this streak for the duration of the game. After being shut out the first quarter (22-0) and down 23 points by the half (35-12), the Tucson Sugar Skulls tried to comeback after scoring a total of 22 points in the last half (56-34).
