FRISCO, TX - Following a close win at home against the Duke City Gladiators last week, the Frisco Fighters are heading to Des Moines, Iowa to face the Iowa Barnstormers Saturday night at the Wells Fargo Arena for their last road game of the regular season. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

The Fighters are looking to clinch their spot in the 2022 IFL playoffs with a win this weekend.

Past meetups - Fighters vs Barnstormers

The Fighters and Barnstormers first met last season on July 9 in Frisco. The Barnstormers were able to keep the lead through the duration of the first three quarters. With six minutes left on the clock, the Fighters scored a touchdown, giving them their first lead of the game (30-28) before the Barnstormers returned for a touchdown taking back the lead. With seconds left, Byron Edwards blocked a two-yard field goal, returning it to seal a Fighters win (42-35).

This will be the first time the Iowa Barnstormers will host the Frisco Fighters.

Players to watch

Quarterback TJ Edwards tallied 115 passing yards with a long of 33 yards through eight passes (12 attempts). This resulted in two touchdowns. Edwards was able to collect another two touchdowns by rushing a total of 60 yards.

With the help of running back Justin Rankin, the Fighters were able to rush a total of 123 yards, over double the Gladiators. Justin Rankin's 58 yards earned him two touchdowns for the Fighters.

Both wide receivers Jerminic Smith and Jordan Jolly received for a touchdown each and with the help of Mark Munson, they were able to collectively tally 115 receiving yards.

The Fighters defense were able to keep the Gladiators to only 45 rushing yards the entire game. Defensive back Trey Wafford tallied five tackles (two solo, three assisted) along with a breakup pass.

Defensive lineman JD Griggs tallied three tackles (one solo, two assisted) resulting in a loss of three yards.

The Fighters were able to get on the scoreboard in the first minute of the game when Edwards connected a 33-yard pass to Jolly in the first play of the game. After being down by one point at the half the Fighters needed to fight to comeback. However, the Fighters found themselves down 12 points in the fourth quarter. With a touchdown from Smith shortening the opposing teams lead to only five points, a last second touchdown run from Edwards resulted in another Fighters win (47-46).
