FC Tulsa News Release

TULSA - FC Tulsa is riding high heading into its 2021 USL Championship home opener against Sporting KC II on Saturday night at ONEOK Field. The club is fresh off a 3-1 beatdown of in-state rival OKC Energy FC last weekend, a win that pushed FC Tulsa to the top of the Central Division standings and extended its franchise record regular season unbeaten streak to eight matches. The last team to beat FC Tulsa in 90 minutes was this week's opponent, SKCII, at ONEOK Field back on August 29, 2020.

ABOUT SPORTING KC II

Sporting Kansas City II is the second team for big Sporting KC in MLS. As an MLS 2 team, Sporting KC II is made up of a lot of Academy players and young talent striving to one day join the MLS club. While SKCII's motivation might be a bit different than FC Tulsa, the team has historically been one of the most successful MLS2 teams in USL Championship history, making the USL Championship Finals in both 2016 and 2017.

One player to watch is forward Ropapa Mensah, who will be a familiar face to two of the FC Tulsa players, Bradley Bourgeois and Lebo Moloto. The trio played together at Nashville SC in 2018 and 2019, helping lead the club to two consecutive USL Championship Playoffs appearances.

SERIES HISTORY

FC Tulsa has had its share of struggles against Sporting KC II in its history. In nine all-time meetings, FC Tulsa is 0W-8L-1D against Sporting KC III, including the loss last season at ONEOK Field. The only FC Tulsa result in the series came in a 1-1 draw on September 22, 2019 at ONEOK.

JOAQUÍN ON THE BRINK OF HISTORY

Forward Joaquín Rivas has had a big week that could get even better with another goal this Saturday against Sporting Kansas City II. As it stands, Rivas has 19 goals in his career with FC Tulsa, just one behind current franchise leader Sammy Ochoa (20).

RIDING THE UNBEATEN STREAK

It has been 244 days since FC Tulsa last lost a regular season match, a 2-1 defeat to Sporting KC II on August 29, 2020 at ONEOK Field. The eight-match unbeaten streak dating back to 2020 is the longest in franchise history.

LONG ROAD TRIP AHEAD

This is the first home match of the USL Championship season for FC Tulsa and the last before a long road trip. FC Tulsa won't be back at ONEOK Field until June 16 and will have four road matches over the next six and a half weeks. FC Tulsa will make trips to Indy Eleven (May 8), Atlanta United 2 (May 19), Sporting KC II (June 2) and Birmingham Legion FC (June 5).

HOW TO TUNE IN

The match will be broadcast on TV locally on My41 Tulsa and nationally on ESPN+. Fans can also follow @FCTulsa on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook for updates and highlights throughout the match.
