ATL UTD 2 travels to Oklahoma City for its first meeting with Energy FC. Atlanta lost its season opener at Louisville City FC last week 2-0. The starting lineup had an average age of 19.6 years old which included four academy players (Vicente Reyes, Caleb Wiley, Brendan Lambe, Coleman Gannon). Aiden McFadden, Josh Bauer, Chris Allan, Darwin Matheus and Alex Garuba each made their team debuts. ATL UTD 2 went toe-to-toe with the two-time USL Cup winners, holding them scoreless for nearly 70 minutes before Lou City grabbed a pair of late goals to earn the win.
Oklahoma City also dropped its season-opening match against FC Tulsa 3-1 at home on April 24. Tulsa's Joaquin Rivas scored a first half brace to give the visitors control of the match. Energy FC was able to pull one back from a set piece in the 76th minute when Connor Donovan headed in a Villyan Bijev free kick. However, Tulsa sealed the win when Dario Suarez scored in the 86th minute.
This is the first of four meetings between ATL UTD 2 and OKC Energy this season. Both teams were placed in the Central Division along with Birmingham Legion FC, Indy Eleven, Louisville City FC, Memphis 901 FC, Sporting Kansas City II and FC Tulsa.
