LEESBURG, Va. - On Friday night, FC Tulsa's new-look squad featuring six players that were not on the club's Week 1 roster is in action at Loudoun United FC. Tulsa has just one loss in its last six outings, and a win could potentially launch the Black and Patina into 6th place in the East.

Over its last two matches, FC Tulsa has a win and a draw thanks in large part to goalkeeper Michael Nelson. Nelson racked up 11 saves combined at Louisville City FC and Monterey Bay F.C., bringing his season total up to 38. That tally ties Nelson for 4th-most in the USL Championship and his save pct. now sits at a very respectable 73.1%.

A constant such as Nelson is crucial to FC Tulsa at the moment as new names continue to fill out the 2023 roster sheet, the most recent being Tommy McCabe. On Tuesday, Tulsa finalized a transfer for McCabe from Detroit City FC, a 25-year-old midfielder who has compiled an impressive body of work on both sides of the ball in a short period of time.

McCabe, in addition to Patrick Weah and Phillip Goodrum, continue to demonstrate FC Tulsa's commitment to improvement after beginning the season 1W-4L-6D. The club is currently in possession of a playoff spot, but finishing Top-4 in the East to host a playoff contest is the goal.

The last meeting between FC Tulsa and Loudoun United FC took place on March 25 of this season, FC Tusla's home opener. Tulsa cruised to a 3-0 victory with goal contributions from roommates Blaine Ferri and Milo Yosef, the first of both players' professional careers, and the 23rd USL Championship goal from Marcus Epps.

FC Tulsa has matched up with Loudoun three times in franchise history, swiping seven of the potential nine points with two wins and a draw.

SCOUTING LOUDOUN UNITED FC

Loudoun United FC has encountered a tough stretch as of late, suffering defeat in its last five matches, including a 4-1 loss to Monterey Bay on June 3 away from home. Currently sitting 11th in the East, Loudoun has managed to accumulate 10 points in 13 matches. On the season, its home record stands at 2W-1L-4D with seven points earned. The club has struggled defensively, posting the worst goal differential in the league (-9), conceding a total of 22 goals at an average of 1.69 per game.

On a positive note, Zach Ryan has been a consistent goalscorer, finding the back of the net five times in 10 appearances. Additionally, Tommy Williamson has been an active presence on the attacking front, ranking third in the league with 32 shots taken, 13 of which have been on target. Despite the team's recent struggles, the performances of Zach Ryan and Tommy Williamson offer glimpses of potential for the team's offensive output.

STAT OF THE MATCH

On the season, Michael Nelson's pure shotstopping ability is ranked the best in the USL Championship, calculated by the 4.63 goals added (g+) number derived from scoring attempts thwarted by the keeper, the highest g+ derived from shotstopping among all keepers in the league.

FC Tulsa is hosting not just one, but two Watch Parties on Friday night at the Tulsan Bar for those that want to watch the match amid this weekend's Tulsa Tough action, as well as the Tulsan Athletic Club.
