Preview: Broncos Return Home After Three-Week Absence to Host Warriors
November 15, 2019 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Swift Current Broncos News Release
SWIFT CURRENT, SK - After a grueling stretch which featured nine of 10 games on the road, the Swift Current Broncos (3-11-1-2) are home at the Innovation Credit Union iPlex for seven of their next 11 games as they host the Moose Jaw Warriors (9-7-1-0) in the back half of a home and home that saw Swift Current drop a 3-1 game last Saturday.
That night, Chase Lacombe scored the lone goal for the Broncos as his shot from the left half wall bounced off a Moose Jaw leg and through the five hole of Adam Evanoff. For Lacombe, it was his first career WHL goal and also came in his hometown. He didn't score a goal last season with the Humboldt Broncos in 45 games, so it was the first time he scored since he was a member of the Moose Jaw Generals Midget AAA team in September of 2017.
Swift Current continued to press in the third period with Hayden Ostir being robbed in the slot off a big rebound and Cohner Saleski just missing a wraparound before the Broncos were called for too many men with Isaac Poulter pulled for the extra attacker.
Owen Hardy would later hit the empty net for the power-play goal to seal the victory for the Warriors, handing the Broncos their fifth straight loss.
Originally scheduled to be a four-game home stand, the Broncos will get just one game in at the iPlex before heading back on the road to play the Regina Pats on Tuesday to make up the game that was postponed on November 8.
The Broncos could see a handful of new faces in the lineup Saturday night with some recent acquisition. Sam McGinley, acquired from the Regina Pats Wednesday night, has been practising with the team since Thursday, as has Matthew Benson, who was picked up from the Moose Jaw Warriors.
Jordan Borysiuk, a member of the Ben King trade, is also back to full practice after not being in the lineup for the game in Moose Jaw last Saturday as he was recovering from an injury. Broncos captain Ethan Regnier is also expected to be back in the lineup after missing the last three games with illness.
