Club de Foot Montreal News Release
MONTREAL - The Montreal Impact announced Monday the nomination of Preston Burpo as goalkeeper coach.
Preston Burpo most recently served as a scout for the United States Soccer Federation in 2011. As a coach, he worked five years with Crossfire FC, in Seattle, Washington. He also served as goalkeeper coach with the University of Cincinnati.
As a player, Burpo distinguished himself during nine seasons and 143 matches with the Seattle Sounders in North American second division, from 1997 to 2005. He registered 38 shutouts, 631 saves and a GAA of 1.19 while helping Seattle win the Playoff Championship in 2005.
He then played 57 games in MLS, from 2006 to 2010, with Chivas USA, the Colorado Rapids and New England Revolution.
As a collegiate player, he played for Southern New Hampshire, from 1992 to 1995, graduating with a degree in Liberal Arts.
"In his career, Preston has worked with many great goalkeepers and goalkeeper coaches," added Jesse Marsch. "He will be able to draw on those experiences and relationships to establish great training and provide intelligent tutelage to our goalkeeper corps. He also helped create a great locker room environment to every team he has worked with, and this will be important for the Impact as we move into MLS."
Youssef Dahha will stay with the club and will be in charge of the goalkeeper development for the U21 team. Mauro Biello and Gil Orriols Jansana will remain with the club but their exact roles have not been defined yet.
