Winnipeg Blue Bombers News Release

As the Winnipeg Football Club prepares to celebrate its 75th Anniversary, it will also mark the 20th year of my association with this proud franchise.

Personally this year will present a significant challenge for my family and myself. Most recently I have been diagnosed with a malignant orpharyngeal tumor for which we will begin treatment immediately. These treatments will occur over the next number of months.

As discussed with the Board of the WFC, it is my intention to continue as the President/CEO aided by the strong management team and staff. The management team assembled here is no accident. They are highly skilled in their respective areas of expertise. Succession planning is paramount for sustainable success.

The WFC has a solid business plan for the future with specific goals and objectives both on and off the field. We as a team, an organization, and community, have come too far not to succeed.

I would like to thank the support that I have received from the Board and specifically Chairman, Gene Dunn, Past Chair, David Asper, and Vice Chair, Ken Hildahl. Also, special thanks to Ross Hodgkinson, who has helped me on some dark days. My family and I are forever grateful to all of you.

This will be a new and significant challenge and I would like to thank my new team....the Staff and Medical Providers at CancerCare Manitoba.

To those who have walked this path before me, I owe a great deal of gratitude for their experience and strength.

This development comes with much surprise as I have been told that I do not fit the profile or lifestyle for what I have contracted. This in itself should send a clear message to thousands of people out there today. Early detections, treatment, and research as the keys to a future world where "ALL CANCERS CAN BE BEATEN".

Thank you for your support.

Lyle and Heidi Bauer and family.
