Predators Sign Donovan to Two-Year, Two-Way Deal

Milwaukee, WI - Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has defenseman Matt Donovan to a two-year, two-way contract. Donovan had originally signed an AHL contract with the Admirals on June 7.

Donovan leads the Admirals and is tied for 13th in the AHL in points with 12 (6g-6a) in 13 games. Among AHL blueliners, Donovan's six goals are second and his 12 points are fourth. He posted a six-game point streak (4g-5a) from Oct. 9-21 and has found the scoresheet in all but five games for the Admirals this season, who lead the AHL's Central Division with an 8-2-3-0 record (19 points).

Originally drafted in the fourth round (96th overall) of the 2008 NHL Draft by the New York Islanders, Donovan spent the past two seasons with Frolunda of the Swedish Hockey League, where he tallied a combined 42 points (8g-34a) in 102 games. Donovan has 67 games of NHL experience with the Islanders from 2011-15, registering 19 points (2g-17a), and has 162 points (46g-116a) in 264 career AHL contests. He played two seasons with the University of Denver from 2009-11 and won a Gold Medal with the United States at the 2010 World Junior Championship.

Donovan and the Admirals return to home ice on Wednesday morning in their first of two Baird School Day Games, featuring 8,000 students for a 10:30 am puck drop against the Chicago Wolves.
