MOLINE, Ill. - The iwireless Center continued to be an unfriendly place again Sunday for the Bloomington PrairieThunder.
The Quad City Mallards made sure if it by posting a 3-1 triumph before 3,391 people in International Hockey League action. The PrairieThunder, which had won five of its last six games, lost for the third time in as many tries at the iwireless Center this season.
Despite the setback, Bloomington remained in a tie for third place in the standings with Fort Wayne. Both teams have 31 points. The PrairieThunder has a 14-9-1-2 record ahead of Tuesday's 7:05 p.m. contest against Muskegon at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.
All general admission tickets are half price, while hot dogs, sodas and popcorn will be $2 each.
Mike Zbriger scored the first Quad City goal four minutes into the first period off assists by Patrick Levesque and Shane Lovdahl. The Mallards got what proved to be the winning goal by Brandon Marino with 1:55 left in the second period. Assists went to Joel Gasper and Obi Aduba.
Bloomington cut its deficit to 2-1 with 4:46 left in the game on rookie defenseman's Cole Ruwe's first goal of the season. Jon Booras and Billy Bagron had the assists.
Quad City scored an empty-net power play goal with 12 seconds remaining. Paulo Colaiacovo, making his first start in the net in six games, took the loss for Bloomington. He stopped 35 of 37 shots.
Kyle Jones was the winning goalie, stopping 32 of 33 shots. Bloomington was shut out on two power plays, while Quad City was 1 for 3. There were only a combined 10 minutes of penalties.
