The Gems headed to McMorran Arena in Port Huron to face the second place Icehawks. The 1stbelonged to Port Huron scoring 4 times before the end of the period. The Gems defense was strong in the 2nd period. Dayton's Corey Couturierscored on a powerplay assisted by Tim Hartung and A.J. MacLean. The Icehawks ended the period with another goal leading the Gems 5 - 1. Port Huronfound the net againearly inthe 3rd. The last score of the game belonged to Gem Jon Ornelas aided by Mike Vaskivuo and Preston Briggs. Final score: Icehawks 6 - Dayton 2. Dayton's record is now 12/14/3/1.
Tomorrow Gems Mascot, Blade will be at the Pond Hockey Charity Fundraiser sponsered bythe Dayton Hockey Foundationat The Kettering Recreation Center. Come on out to cheer on the local Mites andSquirts and to help raise funds for Children's Hunger Alliance the excitement starts at 10AM.
Gems next home game is Wednesday, December 30th at 7pm at Hara. It'll be ring in the New Year so bring your jingle bells and cow bells to help the Gems defeat the Fort Wayne Komets. It'll be another Gems Dollar Beer Night at Hara. The Gems start the new year off at Hara on Sunday, January 3rd with a 5p start against the Port Huron Icehawks.
