Abilene Prairie Dogs News Release

ABILENE, TX -- In the bottom of the ninth inning, Matt Thompson picked up the game-winning R.B.I on Opening Night at Walt Drigger's field in Abilene as the Prairie Dogs beat the Colts 3-2.

Thompson, who concluded his senior season at McMurry University at the beginning of the month, drove in the game-winner on a ninth-inning fielder's choice. Monday marked the first start of Thompson's professional career, and he became the hero on the same field on which his college career unfolded.

Scott Vander Weg picked up his first win of the season in 1.2 innings of relief. Adam Rowe pitched the first 7.1 innings. He allowed 2 runs, gave up 6 hits, and fanned 11 batters.

Gunner Glad threw out a base runner attempting to go first-to-third to end the top of the ninth. In the bottom of the ninth, Glad smacked a double into right-centerfield setting up Thompson's walk-off grounder to second.

Prairie Dogs will travel to San Angelo for the third of a four game series. The game starts at 7:05 and you can hear the action on 106.9 KLGD beginning with the pregame show at 6:55.
