Prairie Dogs Late Rally Falls Short

Abilene Prairie Dogs News Release

SAN ANGELO, TX - For the second night in a row the Prairie Dogs had an opportunity to grab a win in the late innings against San Angelo. After Matt Thompson took advantage last night in the ninth inning, the Prairie Dogs had chances in both the 8th and 9th innings to write story book endings.

Unfortunately, the story book ending was not in the cards for Abilene as they fell 6-5 in San Angelo.

In the 8th inning Kyle Nichols led off the inning with a walk. After Joe Weik flied out and Nick Ochoa grounded out, Gunner Glad drew a walk to bring the newest Prairie Dog to the plate. K.C. Judge was traded from San Angelo to Abilene late this afternoon for future considerations and came to the plate with the Prairie Dogs trailing 6-3.

Judge was jammed on a fastball from reliever Cory Patton and grounded out weakly to first base.

With 1 out in the 9th inning CF Jason Martin walked and Reggie Williams followed him with a base-hit, his third of the game. Wilson Batista came to the plate and stroked a single into right center that scored both Martin and Williams to make the score 6-5.

San Angelo closer Eric Draxton got Kyle Nichols to fly out to left for the second out when 3B Joe Weik came to the plate. Weik has developed a reputation for coming up with the big hit for the Prairie Dogs in key spots but Draxton got him to bounce out to short stop to end the game

The Colts offense was lead by CF Ronnie Gaines who went 3-4 with a run scored and an RBI. His RBI triple in the bottom of the 7th put the Colts in the lead. SS Landon Camp and 3B Davis Page each had 2 hits for San Angelo

The Prairie Dogs jumped on the board first in the game when the top of the order came to bat for a second time. Jason Martin and Reggie Williams each singled to begin the inning, then Wilson Batista came to the plate and pulled a double down the left field line driving in two. After Nichols flied out, Joe Weik followed him with a double and his fifth RBI of the year.

Each starting pitcher pitched 7 innings but found their rhythms at different times in the game. Prairie Dog starter Braden Tullis suffered his second loss of the season but pitched well early on. Tullis retired the first 8 batters of the game before allowing a solo HR to the 9th hitter in the order, Davis Page.

Logan Williamson found his stride after allowing 3 runs in the 3rd inning. Williamson retired 11 of the next 13 batters he faced before exiting after 7 innings. Williamson allowed 8 hits 3 runs 2 walks and struck out 3.
