Saskatchewan Roughriders News Release

The CFL and NFL announced today that teams and players from both leagues are joining forces to run football clinics and raise awareness of the benefits of physical activity.

This spring the Seahawks and Lions will team up in Vancouver, Packers and Roughriders in Regina and Renegades and Giants in Ottawa.

Youth between the ages of 8 and 14 are invited to sign-up locally for the free daylong events. The NFL and CFL players will work together to lead basic drills for the boys and girls. The Flag Football drills will focus on core skills such as passing, receiving and proper running techniques, all building blocks for success in the game of football.

Children of Rider Fan Club members and Gainer's Gang members will be given priority when registering for the event.

NFL players participating in the clinics include New York Giant and Ottawa native JESSE PALMER (QB), Seattle Seahawk J.P. DARCHE (LS) and Green Bay Packer BILL FERRARIO (OG).

CFL players participating in the clinics include B.C. Lion JASON CLERMONT (SB) and Saskatchewan Roughriders PAUL McCALLUM (K) and SCOTT SCHULTZ (DL).

"Practice with the Pros clinics are designed to help both leagues create a new generation of fans and players," said Jay Sweeney, Manager of Events and Fan Development for NFL Canada. "Through the clinics we also hope to introduce young people to some football skills and easy games that give them an exciting new way to stay healthy and active."

Over the past several years CFL and NFL players have shared their enthusiasm for the sport with youth at Practice with the Pros clinics in Vancouver (Lions/Seahawks), Edmonton (Eskimos/Broncos), Calgary (Stampeders/Broncos), Winnipeg (Blue Bombers/Vikings), Hamilton (Ti-Cats/Bills), Toronto (Argonauts/Bills) and Montreal (Alouettes/Panthers).

The National Football League and Canadian Football League work together to support the game of football at the grassroots level in Canada. Another grassroots initiative is Reebok NFL/CFL Flag Football, an elementary in-school physical education program, currently active in more than 1,100 schools and involving more than 300,000 youth.

According to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation, inactive young Canadians are in danger of triggering swelling rates of heart disease at earlier ages.
