(Kannapolis, NC- July 1, 2015)- The West Virginia Power beat the Kannapolis Intimidators 11-4 on Wednesday evening at Intimidators Stadium. Power batters walked a total of 12 times and reached on 12 hits for their sixth win in their last seven games.
Cole Tucker led off the game with a single and advanced into scoring position when Jordan Luplow was hit by a pitch. With two down, Jerrick Suiter singled to right to plate Tucker for a 1-0 lead. West Virginia added a run in the second on a triple by Elvis Escobar that drove in Francisco Diaz from second.
Chase Simpson's seventh home run of the season, a two-run shot off Intimidators starter Yelmison Peralta, extended the lead to 4-0 in the third. Jordan Luplow tripled in Tyler Filliben in the fourth to extend the Power lead to 5-0. Kannapolis broke up the shutout on a two-run home run by Nick Basto off Power starter Austin Coley in the bottom of the fourth.
West Virginia added three runs in the sixth inning on a home run by Michael Suchy; his fifth of the season that extended the Power lead to 8-2. After Kannapolis scored a run on three walks and a hit in the bottom of the sixth, West Virginia scored three more in the seventh on four walks and one hit.
The Intimidators closed the scoring with one run on two hits in the bottom of the ninth.
Coley (10-4) became the first Power pitcher since Rudy Owens during the 2009 season to win ten game in any one year. The right-hander pitched five innings, allowing two runs on five hits with two strikeouts and two walks. Peralta (2-7) took the loss after surrendering five runs on seven hits over four innings. Tucker led West Virginia with four hits in five at bats while Suchy went 2-4 with four runs batted in and Tito Polo walked four times.
Game three of this series is slated for Thursday night with Stephen Tarpley pitching for the Power. The southpaw will be opposed by the Intimidators Thad Lowry. West Virginia is on the road through Friday and return to Appalachian Power Park on Saturday, July 4, when they host the Delmarva Shorebirds.
