Greenville Drive News Release
Hickory, NC - Nine innings weren't enough to decide a winner between the Greenville Drive and Hickory Crawdads on Wednesday night, and it was the Crawdads who came out victorious with a 4-3 win after a night of free baseball.
With the score tied at two in the top of the 10th, Rafael Devers smacked a solo homer to lead off the frame and put the Drive (3-4, 41-36) ahead, but Hickory bounced right back in the bottom half to win the game. With the bases loaded and two outs, Rock Shoulders dropped a single into shallow left to score a pair.
Scott Williams (3-0) got the win for the Crawdads, while Ryan Harris (0-1) took the loss for Greenville.
The defeat spoiled an outstanding effort on the mound from Reed Reilly, who shut out the Crawdads over six and two-third innings with five strikeouts while allowing just four hits and no walks.
The Drive took a 2-0 lead against Hickory starter Nick Gardewine in the fourth inning thanks to RBI doubles by Javier Guerra and Joseph Monge.
Hickory got on the board in the eighth with a Josh Morgan RBI single off Kuehl McEachern, and an RBI groundout by Shoulders tied the game in the ninth. Shoulders finished the night with three RBI.
Pacing the Drive offense were Devers, Guerra and Monge, who all had two hits and an RBI. Morgan, Carlos Arroyo, Jonathan Meyer and Juremi Profar eached picked up a pair of hits for Hickory.
The series continues at 7:00 PM on Thursday night in Hickory. The scheduled pitching matchup will feature Drive RH Michael Kopech (3-5, 3.06) against Crawdads RH Cody Buckel (0-2, 3.52).
