Augusta GreenJackets News Release
AUGUSTA, GA: Friday night, the Augusta GreenJackets (62-66) and the West Virginia Power (79-50) squared off for game four of their series. After dropping the first two games, the GreenJackets squeezed out a two to one victory Thursday night and looked to split the series Friday. DJ Snelten made the start for the GreenJackets and the Power countered with Alex McRae. A five run fourth inning knocked Snelten out of the game. The GreenJackets only managed to push across one run on the board during the game and eventually fell to the Power with a score of five to one.
The first three innings of play, pitcher DJ Snelten managed to maneuver around the Power's line up. Snelten gave up a few hits but held the Power at bay. In the fourth inning Snelten gave up four singles and a two RBI triple to shortstop to Kevin Newman and before the fans could realized it, the Power had five runs on the board. After Snelten retired Kevin Kramer for the final out of the inning, manager Nestor Rojas had made the decision to go to his bullpen for the rest of the night. Pitchers Connor Kaden and Rodolfo Martinez held the Power to just one hit over the next five innings.
The GreenJackets answered back in the bottom of the fourth inning with a double from Andrew Cain to score Matt Pare from first base. Despite the lack of scoring, the GreenJackets squeezed out seven hits on the night. Matt Pare has now recoded multiple hits in back to back games and Jonah Arenado went two for four at the plate.
Friday night's scoreboard line read five runs, eight hits, and zero errors for the West Virginia Power and one run, seven hits, and one error for the Augusta GreenJackets. DJ Snelten is now five and five on the season with an ERA of three and Alex McRae improves to seven and nine with an ERA of 4.81.
Tomorrow morning the GreenJackets head to Savannah for six games in five days against the Sand Gnats. Monday's contest will include a doubleheader starting at 5:35pm due to a rain out game dating back to August 19th in Augusta.
