Delmarva Shorebirds News Release

LEXINGTON, KY - The Delmarva Shorebirds won their third straight road series with a 9-2 surge past the Lexington Legends on Friday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.

Brenan Hanifee (4-1) earned the win for the Shorebirds (23-11), allowing two runs on five hits in 5.2 innings while walking two and striking out seven. Nolan Watson (2-3) endured the loss for the Legends (15-17), absorbing nine runs on 10 hits in five innings.

For the third straight game the Shorebirds revved up the offense in the first inning. Kirvin Moesquit walked to lead off the game, then Mason McCoy beat out an infield single to set the table. T.J. Nichting slashed a double to left center, scoring Moesquit and putting men on second and third. Seamus Curran followed with an RBI groundout to give the Shorebirds a 2-0 lead.

Branden Becker singled with one out in the second inning, and Moesquit ran into a hanging pitch that sailed over the wall in right center for a home run. The two-run shot was Moesquit's third of the season but first to leave the yard, to make it 4-0.

The Legends got those runs back in the second on a Sebastian Rivero single and Brewer Hicklen's second home run of the series.

Delmarva busted things open for good in the fifth. McCoy and Nichting led off with back-to-back singles and moved into scoring position on an errant throw. Curran then shot a grounder over the first base bag and into the right field corner for a double, scoring both men to make it 6-2.

After a flyout, Ben Breazeale tagged one to left center that snuck over the wall for a two-run homer, his second of the season and second in as many nights. Will Robertson followed Breazeale with a no-doubter to deep left center, putting the visitors up 9-2 on the Shorebirds' second back-to-back home runs of the year.

Alex Katz came on with two outs in the sixth to strand Hanifee's inherited runner and tossed a scoreless seventh and eighth for good measure, striking out five in 2.1 frames. Zach Muckenhirn came in in the ninth and worked around a walk and hit batsman to strike out three.

Nichting finished 3-for-5 with a double, run, and RBI to lead the Shorebirds, while McCoy finished 2-for-5 with two runs and his SAL-leading fifth triple. Curran drove in three runs, while Moesquit scored twice.

Hicklen reached three times for Lexington, going 1-for-2 with a home run, two RBIs, a walk, and a hit batsman.

Delmarva has now won three straight road series dating back to April 17. The Shorebirds swept three games from Hagerstown and took two out of three from Hickory before claiming the rubber matchup in Lexington.

The Shorebirds now head south for the back end of their seven-game road trip with the first of four in Columbia on Saturday night. Delmarva turns to Gray Fenter (2-2, 4.73) against the Fireflies' Anthony Kay (1-1, 3.42). First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m., and pregame coverage on Fox Sports 960 AM and the MiLB First Pitch App begins at 5:50 with Will DeBoer on the call.
