Power lose to Suns

(Charleston, WV): The West Virginia Power lost to the Hagerstown Suns 11-2 Friday Night at Appalachian Power Park. The Power collected only two hits with their last one coming in the second inning.

Hagerstown struck first by scoring three runs in the second inning. West Virginia cut the deficit in the third when Max Moroff hit an RBI single, scoring D.J. Crumlich.

The Suns added two more runs in the fourth to make the score 5-1. Barrett Barnes led off the bottom half of the inning with a walk. He then stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error. Josh Bell then drove Barnes in with an RBI groundout to cut the Suns lead to three.

Hagerstown took advantage of the Power pitching by four in the fifth, one in the seventh, and scored their final three runs in the eighth. West Virginia did not get any of the final 15 batters on base.

Joely Rodriguez (0-2) received the loss after tossing 4.2 innings, allowing nine runs (5 earned), and striking out four. Pedro Encarnacion (1-0) receives the win by tossing five innings and allowing only two hits. Blake Schwartz earned his first save this season by throwing four innings in relief.

West Virginia and Hagerstown play again tomorrow night at Appalachian Power Park. Clay Holmes will be the starting pitcher for the Power. He will face off against the Suns' Dixon Anderson. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05.
