Rome Emperors News Release

Rome, GA - The Rome Braves were overpowered by the Asheville Tourists 7-5 Friday night in front of 2,775 fans at State Mutual Stadium.

Asheville took the lead in the first inning with two runs thanks to a fielding error by Carlos Franco and a sacrifice fly by Francisco Sosa. The Braves bounced back with a run in the bottom of the second on a RBI single by Tony Mueller. Rome looked like it was headed for its second straight victory by adding four runs in the third. Two Asheville errors and a run scoring single by Mueller gave Rome an 5-2 early lead.

Asheville made it a 5-4 game in the fourth on an RBI triple by Derek Jones. The Tourists tied the game in the sixth 5-5 after a Jose Briceno double and a Chris O'Dowd single. In the eighth Julian Yan led off the inning with a triple and scored on an O'Dowd double making it a 6-5 game. Asheville added an insurance run when Matt Wessinger doubled home O'Dowd for the 7-5 final.

Ryan Arrowood (2-0) gets the win for Asheville and Shae Simmons (0-1) received the loss. Raul Fernandaz earns his fourth save of the season.
