Power Drop First Game to Moncton on East Coast Trip

(Moncton, NB -)The Power took a tough loss in the first game of their East Coast swing with a 94-100 defeat to the Moncton Miracles. Centre Chad Posthumus led the Power in his first appearance for the Black and White with 34 points and 22 boards. Warren Ward chipped in with 17 points and 9 rebounds in his first appearance as well.

The Miracles jumped to a 6-0 lead until forward Marcus Capers set the record straight with a slam dunk. The Power came within a basket of the Miracles thanks to Power newcomer Warren Ward's short range jump shot. Moncton and Mississauga played back and forth basketball but the Power pulled away to take their first lead, 23-22, at the end of the quarter.

Mississauga had great opportunities to score but could not find the basket. The Miracles went on a nine point run before Posthumus made a free throw and Capers hit a jump shot. Mississauga's aggressiveness finally kicked in when Posthumus made his mark with a dunk that cut down Moncton's lead to 33-26. Guard Omar Strong's deadly three point shooting kicked in and cut Moncton's lead to five and slowly Mississauga's play heated up for the next few minutes. But it was short lived as The Miracles held Mississauga for seven points to send it into halftime with a 49-37 Moncton lead.

After a scoreless last two minutes in the half, Mississauga went to work to have a huge quarter. Again Capers broke the ice with a dunk followed by a jump shot from Ward. After seven minutes of work the Power were close to tying the game with a three pointer from guard Jordan Weidner, making it a 55-57 ball game. By the end of the quarter the Power took a 67-65 lead thanks to another Ward basket.

The Power went on a 6-2 run and lead by as much as 81-74. Then the Miracles laid on a seven point show to obliterate the lead to 81-83. Moncton made it difficult for the Power to close out the game and eventually took the final lead of the game once the Miracles made it to 91-90. Posthumus sank two points to make it a 92-95 game but the Miracles closed the game out and beat the Power 100-94.

The Power will travel to the Charlottetown Civic Centre to take on P.E.I.'s Island Storm for a 1 p.m. tip-off.
