
Power Beat Down Tomorrow Night at Appalachian Power Park

Charleston, WV (July 30, 2009) - The West Virginia Power has partnered with Simons Promotions to present live boxing at Appalachian Power Park tomorrow, Friday, July 31st. The Power Beat Down is presented by Suddenlink, Dutch Miller, 98.7 The Beat and 96.1 The Wolf. Gates for the Power Beat Down will open at 7:00 PM and the fights will begin at 8:00 PM.
The main event will feature Youngstown Ohio's Billy Lyell. Lyell is currently ranked 12th in the world by the International Boxing Federation with a record of 19-7 including 4 knock outs. Lyell is coming off the best win of his career beating the undefeated John Duddy (26-0 with 17 KOs) this past April in Newark, NJ. Duddy was ranked 2nd in the world by the World Boxing Commission at the time. This Friday Lyell will face Chris Overbey (11-9 with 4 KOs) from Sidney, OH in a 6 round middleweight division bout.
In the co-feature, Charleston's own Joey Myers (12-1-1 with 4 KOs) returns to Appalachian Power Park for the first time in two years as he takes on the toughest test of his career. Myers will face Dezi Ford (25-24-1 with 17 KOs) from Akron, OH. in a 6 round welterweight division bout.
The third professional bout of the evening will feature four-time Golden Gloves champion Jason Pettaway (2-0 with 2 KOs). Pettaway is from Huntington, WV and will take on Cincinnati, OH's Julius Jackson (3-3 with 1 KO) in heavyweight bout.
The event will also showcase a female match-up of two former Rough-n-Rowdy competitors. 2008 Rough-n-Rowdy Champion and former St. Albans Homecoming queen, Kayli Carter, will box against 2009 Rough-n-Rowdy Runner-Up Amber Morgan under semi-pro rules in the welterweight division. Four additional semi-pro bouts will round out the card featuring boxers from West Virginia and Ohio.
The Power Beat Down is a rain or shine event. In the event of rain the fight will be relocated to the third base concourse area underneath the canopy. Tickets are on sale now at the Power Box Office. Ringside Table Seating starts at $50 per seat. General Seating is $20 in advance, or $25 at the gate.
