Charleston, WV - The West Virginia Power are pleased to announce a new scholarship program, underwritten by Subway Development of West Virginia and Greg Hammond. Power Baseball Charities, a 501c3, is offering two reoccurring $1,000 scholarships each year, benefiting one local high school baseball player and one local high school softball player.

Any graduating senior residing in Kanawha or surrounding counties who will be attending any post-secondary institution on a full-time basis and has participated in either varsity baseball or softball is eligible to apply for the scholarship. Applicants will be required to show outstanding citizenship, demonstrate a role in bettering the community and list academic and athletic achievements.

A selection committee will review the completed applications and choose the two recipients, one male and one female. As long as these recipients stay in school, remain in good standing and maintain academic standards (to be determined by the committee at a later time), they will continue to receive the $1,000 per school year for up to four years.

Copies of the application have been sent to local schools and the deadline to apply is May 27, 2016. The application is also available on the Power's website. A formal awards presentation will be made on a date to be determined in August at Appalachian Power Park. There will be a pre-game ceremony at that game where the winners will receive recognition for their award by members of the committee.
