ALLENTOWN, Pa. -- Right-handed pitcher Jeremy Powell held the Lehigh Valley IronPigs scoreless for seven innings and third baseman Pedro Alvarez hit a two-out, two-run double in the top of the fifth inning to lead the Tribe to a 4-1 win on Monday night at Coca-Cola Park.

The win moves the Indians' record to 13-12, while the loss drops the IronPigs to 10-14 on the season. The Tribe's victory was also the team's 10th win on the road this season, which is the highest total in the International League.

In his fifth start of the season, Powell (7.0 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 4 SO) limited the IronPigs' offense to five hits and three walks, while allowing only one Lehigh Valley base runner to reach third base. Tribe reliever Vinnie Chulk (1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 SO) worked a perfect eighth inning before RHP Jean Machi (1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB) closed out the contest in the ninth to preserve Powell's second win of the season

With the game still scoreless in the top half of the fifth inning, Alvarez stepped to the plate with two outs and runners at first and second. After watching the first pitch from IronPigs' starter Joe Savery sail in for a ball, the Tribe third baseman jumped on the second offering of the at-bat and lined the pitch to center for a double to drive in Powell and CF Brandon Moss. Powell started the offensive rally with a one-out single and Moss coaxed a five-pitch walk to set the stage for Alvarez.

RF Brandon Jones upped the Indians' advantage to 3-0 in the sixth inning with a leadoff home run to right field, before an errant pickoff throw in the eighth allowed 1B Steve Pearce to scamper home and give the Tribe the 4-0 lead. The Indianapolis first baseman led off the eighth with walk, moved to second on a balk, advanced to third on a passed ball and then scored on an error by the IronPigs' catcher.

Lehigh Valley attempted a rally in the bottom of the ninth inning and scored a single run in the frame on a throwing error, but Machi quieted the comeback attempt with a pop-up to end the game.

Alvarez (2-for-3, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 1 BB) and Jones (2-for-5, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI) recorded multiple hits for the Tribe, while six Lehigh Valley batters each recorded one base knock on the evening.

Savery (6.0 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 SO) allowed three runs on eight hits in six innings of work for the IronPigs, but was strapped with his second loss of the season.

The two teams conclude their four-game series on Tuesday, May 4 at 10:35 a.m. RHP Daniel McCutchen is expected to get the nod for Indianapolis, while RHP Drew Carpenter is the probable starter for Lehigh Valley.

The contest will be carried by WXLW-950 AM and www.IndyIndians.com with Howard Kellman and Scott McCauley on the call. The pre-game show begins at 10:15 a.m.
